Indian Salaries Rising:

For the fifth year in a row, salaries will grow the fastest in India among all Asian countries, according to a new survey. An annual survey by the global human resource company Hewitt Associates, expects Indian salaries to rise an average 15.2 percent, after increasing 15.1 percent last year. Salaries in China are projected to grow by 8.5 percent, followed by the Philippines with 8.3 percent. The survey measures compensations in five job categories - executives, managers, midlevel staff, clerks and manual workers. The survey covered 2,000 Asian companies, 540 of which are in India.

Indian Diaspora Can Help Bridge Poverty vs Prosperity Gaps

One of the key elements of India's 11th Five Year Plan, due to start from April 2007, is to narrow the country's many divides, especially between the rich and poor, the urban and rural. As Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia told the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, "India has seen a GDP growth-rate of around 8% over the last 4 years, but legitimate concerns remain unresolved. An inclusive growth is required." He identified four imperatives requiring attention for India's all-round development: Agriculture is foremost, followed by infrastructure, health and education. Engaging the Diaspora

Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) Chairman, Mr Thomas Abraham, said the 25 million PIOs account for US$250 billion output annually, which is a third of the national economy. The total membership is larger than the population of some of the European countries, he said, noting that two new chapters had recently been opened in Durban and Ireland.

Former diplomat, Mr. T.P. Sreenivasan, said it was formed initially to protect the human rights of overseas Indians. President, GOPIO International, Mauritius, Mr Mahyendrah Utchanah, said that GOPIO is looking to adopt 50 small villages in India to trigger the developmental processes there. He said the Indian government should seek to open up education to PIOs. "This will lead to lasting relationships leading to business engagements in the future," he said. READ MORE...
